The North -Americans are striving for harmony at home more than ever: the transformation of the yard into a shrine has been named the largest outdoor trend in 2025.
A survey of 2,000 landlords explored their aspirations and goals of the household by 2025 and found the trends of the home more popular that people who seek to implement this year create shrines in the yard (41%), adding graves and elements of outdoor heating (38%) and make their spaces more private (37%).
The results also showed a real feeling to make the most of our outdoor spaces and increase time in the fresh air: two -thirds (67%) plan to spend more time outdoors than in previous years.
In fact, the owners estimate that they spend 11.7 hours a week at home this year compared to the 9.6 hours weekly spent outside last year, which is a 22%increase.
Directed by Talker Research on behalf of Trex Company, the survey also found that four out of ten owners have specific plans to renew the outside of their home this year.
This is a project worthwhile, as 40% of the owners reported to spend at least 30 minutes in their outdoor spaces every day.
The list of projects that participants are most interested in completing this year were landscaping (34%), building a new patio or cover (25%) and improving their outdoor lighting options (25%).
When asked how far they estimate that their yard is their dream space, the average response was 45%.
Only 10% said they would not change anything from their outdoor space.
“The owners are reimaginating their spaces outdoors, not only as extensions of their houses, but as essential retreats for relaxation, connection and comfort,” said Jodi Lee, a senior vice president of Marketing at Trex Company. “From fire pits to privacy characteristics, it is clear that by 2025 it is about creating personalized and habitable areas that reflect the individual style and support outdoor life throughout the year.”
Another motivator for owners to invest outside their home? The impact that would have on the value of your home.
Eighty-seven percent thinks that the update of your front and the gardens will increase the resale value of your property.
The survey also found the number of homeowners costing their dream exteriors, citing an average of $ 13,321.
As they would like to do these plans is a combination. Thirty-three percent would prefer to do it themselves, while 28% said they prefer to hire a professional.
Thirty-four percent would probably make a combination of both.
What is most important for owners is sustainability. Sixty-eight percent of the respondents said that their reforms are manufactured with ecological materials and that they have energy efficient designs.
“We are seeing more people who want to cut spaces where they can slow down, relax and enjoy being out,” added Lee. “As daily life is more busy and more digitally connected, the backyard has become one of the few places that people can disconnect, find a little tranquility and spend time with family and friends in their own terms. This is what really drives these changes, it is not just about adding functions, but also creating a space that feels personal and restorative.”
